Lift Up Jamaica undertakes community projects in Sanguinetti
published: Friday | April 7, 2006

George Henry, Gleaner Writer

SPALDINGS, Clarendon:

MORE THAN $8 million has been spent to carry out work on three important projects in the rural community of Sanguinetti in northwest Clarendon.

The works being undertaken include the construction of additional classrooms at the primary school in the com-munity, the rehabilitation of a building at the community centre and the upgrading of a sporting complex.

Richard Azan, Member of Parliament for the area, told The Gleaner that major repair work is being undertaken at the community centre following damage caused by Hurricane Ivan in 2004.

He said the work includes the renovation of the entire roofing structure, painting as well as the repairing of electrical work. He said the works are being undertaken through Lift Up Jamaica.

Mr. Azan said the repair work was slated to be undertaken on the basic school at the com-munity centre when work on the main building there is completed. This as the main building will be used to accommodate classes while work is being carried out on the basic school.

Mr. Azan also said the basic school required major repair, and that classes would therefore have to be suspended from the facility for some time.

He added that, following the completion of the works at the sites, other works including a major upgrading of the playing field at the community centre will commence.
