THE EDITOR, Sir:AS A Jamaican with a desire to see Jamaica grow and develop in my time, I look forward to a system of governance that makes room for consultation with the people in relation to decision-making.
For too long, decisions have been made based on party expediencies rather than dialogue.
It is for this reason that I congratulate the Prime Minister on her move in this direction, holding all parliamentarians and other officials accountable to the people, or is this just talk? We will see.
THE CHURCH
I also want to applaud her desire to include the Church on government boards to enhance probity and transparency, knowing that many will come against this gesture, citing existing competence. Notwithstanding same, this decision must without fail go ahead.
The Church must accept this challenge and make itself accountable as the vanguard of fairplay in the processes of decision-making towards the development of all people, giving equal opportunity.
There is no room for unmerited excuses allowing acts of corruption to 'slide'. They must now prove their mettle, based on the dictates of the word of God, as they stand for justice for all in all things.
No Jamaican Prime Minister comes to leadership with a desire to wreck this country.
It is the lack of accountability on the part of those who fail to perform their individual job with honesty, probity and fairplay, which has led to the demise of successive administrations (Jamaica Labour Party and People's National Party), and by extension the perpetual suffering of the Jamaican people.
The time is now to change the system to make everyone give account of their stewardship.
Madame Prime Minster, I support your objectives and at the same time let you know that you will be held accountable for the holistic vision and each Member of the House for the job they are assigned. Just note, if there is no performance, we the people will fire from top to bottom!
To the Opposition which I appreciate much, I say, it's not power that brings about change - it's leadership at all levels of the society that listens to the voice of the people.
I am, etc.,
