Stepping out in style - Fashion this Easter
published: Monday | April 10, 2006

Left: If conservative yet fashionable is more your style, then this little white dress complemented by a brooch and a hat will do the trick. Right: For Good Friday service, if you want to be simple yet elegant, then this little black and white skirt with this black shirt is perfect.

EASTER IS the time of year when Christians celebrate the death and resurrection of Christ. And, it is also the time when these individuals go into a state of mourning, followed by much rejoicing.

Good Friday is observed as the day for mourning and remembering the day Jesus was crucified. In an act of gratitude and thanksgiving to Him, individuals wear full black or black and white to church services across the island. Black is worn only on Good Friday and Holy Saturday before the Easter vigil, with no other accessory or colour. Also, the sanctuary is sometimes decorated in black.

On the other hand, Easter Sunday is a time for celebration. This is the day when Christians celebrate the resurrection of Jesus; the day that it is said He rose from the grave. As such, individuals adorn themselves in full white clothing for church worship. White is said to symbolise purity, holiness, and virtue, as well as respect and reverence. The pristine colour is used for all high Holy days and festival days of the church year, especially the seasons of Easter and Christmas. For baptism, marriage, ordinations, funerals, and dedications, white is also the first choice.

If you have not yet selected your Easter whites, here are a few ideas for you.
