IN THE wake of new contractual irregularities, the National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA) will once again be placed under the Contractor General's microscope.
Highly placed sources say top officials from the Ministry
of Local Government and Environment and other stakeholders convened a meeting recently to assess the situation.
Andrea Hoo Fung, communications officer at the Office of the Contractor General, told The Gleaner late yesterday that contact will be made with the NSWMA before the week ends.
She said: "It is our intention to formally write them this week to come and look at the extent to which our recommendations (from the previous report) have been implemented and if there is any deficit we will find it."
PROTOCOL BROKEN
This latest move follows a report in The Gleaner last Friday which indicated that the Errol Greene-led management team of the beleaguered state agency broke protocol by spending about $40 million on "emergency work", between July 2005 and March 2006, without the knowledge or approval of the board.
Mrs. Hoo Fung also said the new probe would not be a full investigation and that the actions of Contractor General Greg Christie would depend on the findings.
