EIGHTH-PLACED Arnett Gardens gave an improved showing on last week's hammering to Seba United when they played to an exciting 3-3 draw in the Wray and Nephew National Premier League with another Montego Bay team, Wadadah at Jarrett Park on Sunday.
Markino Gillings hit a double for the home team in the 17th and 71st minutes and Jermaine Anderson had the other in the 76th minute for Wadadah.
Arnett Gardens' goals came from Jonathan Williams in the eighth minute, Cornel Chin-Sue in the 57th minute and Patrick Graham in the 86th.
The game took a while to get going.
Even after Williams benefitted to score from poor defending - on the part of Omar Kerr who escorted his chip around the goalkeeper on to the right where the ball rebounded, hit him and crawled into the back of the net - the game did rise to a level of respectability.
Despite the fact that Gillings managed to score two lovely gaols, the first of which he collected in his stride from just outside the 18-yard box, shook off a challenge on his way into the box before firing sweetly past Julian McLeish who remained rooted to his spot in the goal.
GOAL OF BEAUTY
Chin-Sue put his team back in front with a goal of beauty just behind the spot where Gillings scored his first.
He collected a cross from Williams 20 yards from goal, picked his spot and fired home with the left foot.
With the goal of the game Gillings drew Wadadah level. Sandwiched between two defenders, he executed a fine bicycle kick to beat McLeish a second time.
Just five minutes afterwards Anderson gave Wadadah the lead for the first time in the game when his shot into the ground from about 10 yards bounced over McLeish who was already committed to going down.
With pride at stake, Arnett Gardens never gave up and from a move engineered by Chin-Sue and involving Williams and Horace Sharpe who found Graham, they equalised. Graham's shot gave goalkeeper Gavine Barrett no chance.
JOSTLING FOR PLACES
"It was competitive but a reflection of where the competition is. We are just jostling for places right now. I am not unhappy with the quality of play because we just introduced a lot of young players and to score three goals on the road is good," said Arnett Gardens coach Bradley Stewart of the game which was sometimes physical and almost boiled over at the end.
"The game did not have much in it. The motivation was not there at the start as before the game started the competition was already decided and as a result of that it was difficult to be motivated for it," Wadadah's coach Anthony "Follies" Williams offered.
