Jamaica to be disabled friendly
published: Thursday | April 13, 2006

MAJOR PLANS are under way to transform the Jamaican landscape ahead of Cricket World Cup 2007 for marketing overseas as a disabled-friendly destination.

Senator Floyd Morris made the disclosure regarding the new project, which has been labelled 'Friendly City 2007', on Tuesday while addressing the monthly council meeting of the Kingston and St. Andrew Corporation. He was speaking at the council's Church Street office, downtown Kingston.

He stressed that next year's grand gala of cricket will just be a launching pad for brand Jamaica's latest tourism punch line.

ADVERTISING TO THE WORLD

The state minister, whose vision is impaired, said as soon as the infrastructure is completed the Tourism Product Develop-ment Company and the Jamaica Tourist Board will run with the concept across the globe. "We will be advertising to the world, as having access features for the disabled," said a proud Senator Morris.

Areas being singled out for remedial work include sidewalks building ramps at government offices, parks and hotels.
