Desperate Haitian
published: Monday | April 17, 2006

THE EDITOR, Sir:

MY NAME is Fils. I address this letter to all the members of Jamaican Parliament in Kingston, especially the new Prime Minister of Jamaica, Mrs. Portia Simpson Miller. First, I congratulate you; you fought and you won the battle (election). I want you to visit us soon in your neighbour country Haiti. I think all eyes are on you 'Mom' here in the Caribbean and the whole world.

MY GIRLFRIEND

I am a Haitian student here in the Dominican Republic. I've been to Jamaica, three years ago. I can't visit my girlfriend because my entry visa expired in August 2005. I would like to visit but the consulate is locked down in Port-Au-Prince. I checked out the other Jamaican consulate in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. They are not issuing or renewing Jamaican visas.

What exactly must I do to renew my visa? Remember my status is based on being an international student there. Please talk to them, Prime Minister. Thank you for reading the message; God bless you Jamaica, Haiti and America. Please open back the consulate in Port-Au-Prince, or issue a note for visa delivery in the port of entry in Kingston or Montego Bay. I will never forget you my ex-Prime Minister, Percival James Patterson. Love you all.

I am etc.,
