Missing passport
published: Saturday | April 22, 2006

THE EDITOR, Sir:

IN EARLY February, I sent some documents along with my expired passport for its renewal to the Jamaican Embassy in Washington, DC. The embassy later informed me that they did not have my expired passport.

I told them that I sent all the necessary requirements. To this day, they are unable to locate my passport. They told me I did not send my passport in.

I know that one can never get anything done the right way when dealing with government institutions. They want me to report my passport stolen and I have refused to do so because it was not stolen.

All you Jamaicans overseas, be careful when you send your documents to the Jamaican embassies because there is no guarantee that you'll get them back. I'm now without a passport and it doesn't seem to matter to anyone at the embassy in Washington.

I am, etc.,
