Meadhaven and August Town clash for KSAFA play-off spot
published: Saturday | April 22, 2006

Howard Walker, Staff Reporter

MEADHAVEN HOST August Town at Campion College at 3:30p.m. in what can be described as the Jamaica National/KSAFA Super League final as only two points separate both teams.

With a premier league play-off spot up for grabs, Meadhaven lead the table with 38 points to August Town's 36 with one round to go after today's fixture.

Third-place team Police National on 32 points should beat Greenwich Town and move to 35 points, but cannot leapfrog both teams in the final run-in.

A win today would crown Meadhaven as the Super League champion and ensure a play-off spot with the three other Confederations champion.

So far, St. George's United of Portland, the Eastern Confederation champions, are waiting.

That group will be made up of either Meadhaven or August Town from KSAFA; South Central Confederation finalists Arlington or Naggo Head; and Western Confederation trio Negril FC, Granville of Montpelier.

But with only one game after today's fixture, leaders Meadhaven and second place August Town will be playing their final.

ADVANTAGE

The last time both teams met they played to a 2-2 draw and this time Meadhaven will have the advantage of playing at home.

But David Hunt, coach of Meadhaven, last year's beaten Major League finalist, says this is a pivotal point in the club's history.

"It will be a tough game but it is something that were looking forward to. This is what we have been preparing for, a chance to win," said Hunt.

Christopher Bender, coach of August Town, knows this this basically a championship game.

"We are quietly confident. Discipline is going to take us home, but Meadhaven is a young and talented side," Bender told The Gleaner after training on Thursday. "Defence is going to be the decider as both teams are well organised," he noted.
