'Mills and Boonish' tale of romance
published: Sunday | April 23, 2006

Uncertain Heart
Author: Jeanne Wilson
Reviewer: Barbara Nelson
Publisher: LMH Publishing Ltd.

A 21-YEAR-OLD fashion editor, Patricia 'Trisha' Barrett, is sent on assignment to Jamaica by the magazine YOU: TOMORROW. She is thrilled to visit her grandmother's home as she, Tricia, is third generation 'Black British'.

Tricia hopes this first trip to Jamaica will give her time to heal after a break-up with her boyfriend Jason. But before that can happen she finds that she is hotly pursued by Hammond Verity a tall, dark-haired, dark-eyed man. To add to her confusion, Jason sidles back into her life!

I found the storyline rather trite and to quote Jason in the early part of the book 'Mills and Boonish' in presentation.

Most of the action is set in Jamaica and the late author's description of Jamaica's scenery and lifestyle are quite appealing.

Wilson describes Jamaica's scenery lovingly and obviously found great delight in seeing "the huge white clouds like sculptured mounds of detergent", "the sea of unbelievable beauty, a patch work of emerald, sapphire, and aquamarine rippling in the afternoon sunlight like watered taffeta."

For Trisha "fresh from an English winter, it was a fairytale setting."

FAIRYTALE SETTING

Well the fairytale setting continues as the heroine battles with her emotions and tries to decide which of the two men Jason or Hammond she should allow to make love to her.

She vacillates until Nigel comes riding along - not on a white horse but in "a spanking new Jaguar XJS V12 convertible", pours her Heidsieck-Brut champagne and sweeps her off her feet.

But, is Nigel sincere? Can Trisha trust him? Who will win the hand of the "light coffee" coloured titian haired Trisha? Who will send her into "transports of passion" beyond the realism of imagination? Will she return to the cold of London or stay in the warmth of Jamaica?

Find out for yourselves as Trisha's and her true love's "lips meet in a long kiss filled with the love and contentment that they shared."
