THE OPPOSITION has expressed disgust at the potential sale of Government's share in the Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS).
"Instead of the Government seeking to divest itself of its remaining shares ... (it should) move to take over the entity and find investors who can run JPS as an efficient utility company and not a mere cash cow," Clive Mullings, Opposition Spokesman on Mining, Energy and Telecommunications, said in a statement issued yesterday.
The Opposition spokesman's comments come in response to the last week's Gleaner article which reported Phillip Paulwell's announcement that the Government was considering selling its shares in the JPS to employees and the public.
Mr. Paulwell, the Minister of Industry, Commerce, Science and Technology, said that the sale would not only provide cash, but would give Jamaicans a stake in the business and facilitate some level of employee participation and encourage greater loyalty.
