Stunt full of hitches
published: Tuesday | April 25, 2006

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I beg to differ with Kandre MacDonald's position about the Mountain Dew Stunt Festival. Though I agree that the show itself was a very spectacular one the entire event was full of hitches. This is the third staging of the event in Jamaica and one would have hoped that experience would have taught wisdom. To begin with the television advertisements said that mountain dew labels would give children free rides all day. It was then announced at the show that conditions applied, as not all rides were open to the incentive.

Then there was the issue of parking. My car ended up being surrounded by six other cars ensuring that I could not move more than a couple feet. The process of getting the children whom I had taken to the show was compounded by the fact that patrons were not being allowed re-entry. Getting back into the venue and having to leave the children outside was undoubtedly "unspectacular". Then there were persons trying to get out to move their vehicles in order to let them leave who were being told they would have to pay to get back in. Of course this only compounded the issue.

I brought children to the show to enjoy it and they did. However the level of organization was far below par. There were deceptions along the way and the attempt to maximise profits from the car park has left many perturbed. I therefore urge the organisers of the event that when they come back next year to put on their show, to 'oooh' and 'aaawh' our children remember that these events have many aspects and each require expertise and detailed attention.

I am, etc.,
