Walsh wants end to impasse
published: Wednesday | April 26, 2006

ST. GEORGE'S, Grenada (CMC):

LEGENDARY WEST Indies fast bowler Courtney Walsh says the time has come to solve the long-running contracts squabble and focus on cricket.

"As a concerned cricketer and as a Caribbean person and as someone who used to play the game, the sooner we can solve the impasse the better it is going to be for the board and players," Walsh, who took 519 wickets in 132 Tests, said yesterday.

He was speaking even as the West Indies Cricket Board and the West Indies Players Association remained locked in negotiations yesterday over the monetary terms of retainer contracts.

"I am just disappointed that it keeps coming up every time a series is going to be happening. I think we have grown up enough now and it is time to move on," the 43-year old said. "We need to get everything behind us and let cricket be the winner."
