published: Friday | April 28, 2006

NATIONAL JUNIOR representatives Kaliese Spencer and Sherene Pinnock were in impressive form on yesterday's opening day of the Penn Relays in Philadelphia.

Pinnock of Edwin Allen ran a personal best of 56.90 seconds to open Jamaica's account at the relay festival in the high school girls' 400m hurdles.

The 19-year-old Pinnock, a World Junior Championships bronze medallist, defeated Krystal Cantey of Winslow (1:00.05) while bettering her previous best of 57.18.

PERSONAL BEST

Meanwhile, Spencer, a student at the University of Technology (UTech), finished second in the 400m hurdles for College women in a personal best of 55.64, two hundredths of a second outside of Melaine Walker's five-year-old record of 55.62, set in Bridgetown, Barbados. Dominique Darden of Miami (55.60) won the event.

Holmwood (9:04.35) lead Edwin Allen (9:12.64) going into today's Championships of American 4x800m final.
