Don't harass illegal cabbies
published: Thursday | May 4, 2006

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I REALLY think that the police should not harass illegal taxi drivers, because I think it is better for them to work in that area, rather tnan for them to rob my family and friends.

It is difficult for most of them to find lucrative jobs, and the minimum wage is only sufficient to purchase flour. People need more than flour to survive. Extortion and crime cannot have any ending without the provision of better-paying jobs, especially for those persons who are uneducated. What type of lucrative jobs can such persons undertake? I cannot even imagine it. The only ones that come to my mind are prostitution, extortion, drugs, kidnapping, and other illicit activities.

I really would like for someone to volunteer some choices, so that I can make meaningful and realistic suggestions to those persons who are seen wandering on the streets.

I am, etc.,
