OLYMPIC GAMES 200m champion Veronica Campbell says she is concentrating on the 2007 and 2008 athletics season, following her second place finish in the women's event at the Jamaica International Invitational track and field athletics meeting at the National Stadium on Saturday night.
"I am just having fun this season, I am just getting ready for 07, 08," Campbell told reporters after finishing behind Jamaican teammate Sherone Simpson.
"It's has just been a stressful season," added Campbell, who was losing for the second time to Simspon this season.
"This is my last semester in school and I have a lot of work to do and I find it very hard to balance (training and schoolwork). I have to be running to training, to class, and that stuff, but I finish with school next week," explained the national sprint double champion, who hinted things will be different after school is finished.
In Saturday night's 200m, Simpson took charge of the race from early and crossed the line in a world-leading and meet record 22.14 seconds. Campbell, who watched her meet record vanish, was second in 22.51 - her season-best performance.
NO EXCUSES
The former Vere Technical athlete says she wasn't disappointed with the loss.
"I am not disappointed," said Campbell who says she remains a great 200m runner. "I am quite happy with how I performed here.
"I'm happy for Sherone, she is running really well.
"I have no excuses, I lost and I take my loss like a champion," she said when asked what went wrong for her.
Campbell will next race in the United States on May 21.
Meanwhile, asked if she is looking forward to a rivalry with Veronica Campbell and the rest of the top runners in the 200m, Simpson said "yes, definitely".
Simpson said drawn behind Campbell made her a little worried.
"I was a little bit worried but I don't think lane matters, you have to go out there and do what you have to do and that's what I went out there and did."
