MANNING
PORT-OF-SPAIN, TRINIDAD (CMC):
Prime Minister Patrick Manning has cancelled his trip to Europe this week saying it is "inappropriate" for him to leave the island "at this time."
Manning's decision to cancel the visit comes in the wake of media reports that he has called on the Chief Justice, Satnarine Sharma, to either resign or be charged following allegations that an attempt had been made to influence the outcome of the trial involving former Prime Minister Basdeo Panday.
A statement issued by 'Whitehall', the Office of the Prime Minister yesterday, said that Manning held "long discussions" with President George Maxwell Richards, but gave no details.
