BLACK RIVER, St Elizabeth:
JAMAICA LABOUR Party (JLP) Councillor for the New Market Division, Ernest Hendricks, wants the St. Elizabeth Parish Council to immediately investigate allegations that the National Water Commission (NWC) is planning to close the Luana Filling Station in the parish.
"I want to know if the filling station is going to be closed and if that is true, what is the reason?" he demanded.
"This is the only filling station in this area and if the NWC closes it down, tell me how the residents who are depending on this kind of service are going to manage!".
The Luana filling station currently services several communities in southern as well as northern St. Elizabeth.
The station is the main filling bay for the trucks operated by the Rapid Response Unit which also serves many rural communities.
In response, Mayor of Black River, Franklyn Witter, promised that the council would be looking into the matter.
