NEARLY 13,000 electors responded to the Electoral Office of Jamaica's (EOJ) latest notices to verify their place of residence as the EOJ makes final plans to publish a new voters' list.
Following last week's response, Director of Elections Danville Walker told The Gleaner yesterday that the EOJ was now processing the information received from electors to deter-mine whether these persons will be included on the next voters' list.
The EOJ's latest efforts are part of plans to confirm the status of more than 250,000 electors whose place of residence is yet to be confirmed.
Mr. Walker said the EOJ's next move would be to publish the names of electors who are no longer living at addresses previously recorded on the EOJ's system.
"Starting on May 22, you should see in the papers the names of persons who we still feel do not live in the consti-tuencies any more and, therefore, are at risk of not being carried forward to the next voters' list," said the director of elections.
After this publication, voters will have a final opportunity to come forward and validate their addresses with the EOJ over a three-day period. Failure to do so will see those names being left off the voters' list due to be published on May 31.
