THE EDITOR, Sir:
JAMAICANS ARE a proud, determined and independent-minded people. It is that pride... that guts... that determination that has enabled so many Jamaicans to attain national and international fame as high achievers, in almost every area of human endeavour.
We should marshal that pride.. that guts... that spirit... to lift our hearts and heads and to ensure that Jamaica never becomes the brothel of the Caribbean. All those who love and care about Jamaica are well advised to be very vigilant in this regard. Radix malorum est cupiditas: Greed is the root of all evil!
It is from that drive ...that guts ... that determination ...from our self-respect ... and maybe from ethanol ... that we will gain the energy to make Jamaica prosperous, proud and pretty once again! There is big, big money..to be made in ethanol!
We have all that it takes to make ethanol in abundance to feed the world's insatiable desire for energy ... perhaps to make Jamaica prosperous again, and to make our own country energy independent, as Brazil has done. In Brazil, all the cars - equipped with 'flex' engines made by Gm and Ford - run on ethanol derived from sugar cane. If Brazil has done it ... why the devil can't we?
I am, etc.,
