Touch of class for downtown
published: Saturday | May 20, 2006

THE EDITOR, Sir:

ALLOW ME to commend the Downtown Kingston Youth and Community Tourism Organisation (D.T.K.Y.C.T.O.) for their interest in bringing back life in the downtown Kingston area.

The staging of a fashion show, 'Fashion on the Fence', last week Saturday, on Duke Street, was not only a fitting pre-tribute to Mother's Day, but a welcome touch of class to the young people of Fletcher's Land and Central, and the organisers must be
commended.

Allow me to single out a few persons who helped to make the event the success I think it was. Patrick 'Peper' Campbell, director of Suave Modelling Agency; Samantha Christie, director of Suave; Clive Gray, director of the Kingston Metra Transport and Tours; and Mr. Vernal Salmon, chairman of the Portmore Community Tourism Organisation.

It was clear that there were no sponsors for the event, but the organisers, the Enchanted Youth Development Association (EYDO), really put a great deal of interest and effort in making the 800-strong audience enjoy a feast of fashion.

I would encourage any corporate business, both uptown and downtown, to support this event, which I understand the organisers will be staging every Saturday night to promote Cricket World Cup 2007.

Well done, young people. This is what we want in downtown Kingston. Keep it up.

I am, etc.,

EGETON F. NEWMAN

General Secretary
