McGregor amateur serves off Saturday
published: Thursday | May 25, 2006

THE ISLAND'S top amateur players will once again battle for a chance to win tickets to the 2007 Nasdaq Open when the Trafalgar Travel Amateur Tennis points series serves off with the Llockett McGregor Open Amateur Championship on Saturday at the Liguanea Club.

The series of tournaments, now in its third year, will see the players competing in five tournaments over the next couple of months. Points will be given dependent on how far players advance.

The players who amass the best results in various categories will win the grand prize of a free airline ticket, hotel accommodation and tickets to the Florida event.

The points will be awarded to players on the following bases: tournament winner - 100 points, runner-up - 75, losing semi-finalists - 45, losing quarter-finalists - 25 and round of 16 losers - 15.

The categories are men's Class One, Two, Three and Four and a Ladies Open section.

Last year's competition saw many of the categories undecided until the final tournament and 110 players have already been registered for Saturday's first tournament in the series.

Upcoming tournaments in the series are the Wata Amateur Championships, Jamaica National Open, Wigton Windfarm Amateur Tennis Championship and the Trafalgar Travel Amateur Tennis Championship which will be the last in the series.

Play at the weekend will commence at 9:00 a.m. and end at 4:00 p.m., while during the week it will begin at 5:00 p.m. Today is the closing date for entries.
