SANTA CRUZ, St. Elizabeth:
KNOCKOUT CHAMPIONS and giant-killers Tafari Lions and former champions Holland Police Youth Club will contest the 2005/2006 St. Elizabeth Wray and Nephew Major League finals.
In a repeat of the 2003/2004 final, which was won by Holland, Munro College will host the first leg on June 4 while Appleton will stage the second leg on June 8.
Both teams are confident and looking forward to the match-ups.
The coach of Tafari Lions, Linval Wilson, is hoping that his team can get over the final hurdles.
"We are expecting a tough game because Holland is a tough team," Wilson said. "Our team has really done well this season by winning the mid-season and Knockout finals and I am hoping we can get over the final hurdle," he added.
Holland's coach, Lance Morgan, believes he has the team with the ammunition to take the title.
"We are very confident," Morgan said. "We have the best (team) in the parish and once our players score goals, we will take the title. They will definitely be tough games but I expect our team to win once we score," he said.
The Lacovia-based Tafari Lions will be depending on the strike force of brothers Kirk and Marlon Fletcher, Donovan Stone, Delan Ennevor and national Under-21 invitee Merrick Howard.
HOLLAND'S ATTACK
Holland's attack will revolve around their hard-running forward, Edroy Barrett, who got brace to end Thornton's hopes of reaching the final over a week ago, along with their strongman Dwayne 'War Lord' Wanliss, Damian Stone, Senior Clarke and Rohan Dawkins.
On Labour Day, the Lions booked their spot after beating Black River United 5-4 on penalties, this after scoring a 1-0 win in the second leg to level the tie 3-3.
Meanwhile, in the Division One, mid-season champions STETHS (34 points) continued their dominance with a 2-1 victory over Rocky Hill (18); second-placed Young Brazil (27) beat Longwood (18) and Mountainside (18) downed Tafari Youths (six) 3-0.
Arlington PYC lead Zone A on 12 points in the Alpart Division Two competition while Northampton FC top Zone B with 14 points.
