Colin Campbell is new People's National Party (PNP) general secretary
published: Monday | May 29, 2006

SENATOR COLIN Campbell was yesterday elected general secretary of the People's National Party (PNP).

He said yesterday his main objective in his new post was to modernise the information technology and management systems of the party.

He was speaking to reporters after the National Executive Council (NEC) of the PNP met yesterday afternoon at the Culloden HEART Academy in Whitehouse, Westmoreland.

"This is a great opportunity for service," commented Senator Campbell. "I intend to do things within the dictates of the NEC. One of the things I will be moving to do right away is the modernisation of the systems because many times we take decisions and we are not as efficient in getting them implemented and really that's almost the 'jump start' for me."

Just after midday on Sunday, Senator Colin Campbell was acclaimed the new general secretary of the PNP after being nominated and seconded by Agriculture Minister Roger Clarke and Education Minister Maxine Henry-Wilson respectively. Burchell Whiteman resigned recently.

Meanwhile, party chairman Robert Pickersgill told reporters that the PNP is having a surplus of applications for candidacy. "We are having more complaints and little pockets of upset because so many people are applying to run for the People's National Party. In fact, before the presidential elections, it would be fair to say we were searching for candidates, but now there is just a plethora of candidates from all over."
