Top amateurs advance to day four of Classic
published: Wednesday | May 31, 2006

Kwesi Mugisa, Staff Reporter

THE ISLAND'S top amateurs will look to continue making their mark when the Llockett McGregor Amateur Tennis Championships move into their fourth day of matches this evening at 5:00 at the Liguanea Club, New Kingston.

There were no major surprises in Men's Class One play on Monday as top seeds Tyler Chin, Christopher Lawson, Dwyane Alexander and Yussuf Migoko all advanced.

In other games, Adam Vaz got by Joel Jones 6-4, 6-2 while Adam Harris blasted Scott Roman 6-1, 6-0. Number one seed Dwayne Pagon, who won the series when it was last played, got a bye into the next round.

In Class Two, last year's runner-up Allie McNab also received a bye to the next round. Things should now be a bit easier for McNab since Andrew Lowe, who won Class Two, in the previous instalment of the tournament has now been moved up to Class One.

In Class Three, the number one and number two seeds, Marlon Brown and Ruddy Chin, also received byes to the next round. Leon Senior had to go the extra set to get by Warrenton Dixon 6-4, 2-6, 7-5 while Damion Black beat Melkirk Crosse 6-3, 6-3.

In Class Four, favourite Nelton Forsythe got by Michael Lyn Cook 6-2, 7-5 while Tym Glaser rallied from a set down to beat Shaun Cochrane 2-6, 6-2, 7-5.

The Championships are the first event of the five-part Trafalgar Travel Amateur points series which will see winners of the various classes win the grand prize of a free airline ticket, hotel accommodation and tickets to the 2007 Nasdaq Open.

Christopher Lawson vs David Shirley, Dax Vernon vs Sheldon McDonald, Richard Moystan vs Michael Lawrence. Ruddy Chin vs Dwight Walcott, Adam Vaz vs Marlon Lambert, Leopold Fung Sang vs Damion Black, Marlon Brown vs Stewart Spencer, Allie McNab vs Leighton Burton, Nelton Forsythe vs Tym Glaser.
