SAVANNA-LA-MAR, Westmoreland:
A MOTOR vehicle accident along the Big Bridge main road in Westmoreland on Tuesday has left 13 persons hospitalised in serious condition, one of whom has been transferred to the Kingston Public Hospital (KPH) in critical condition.
It has been reported that, about 6:00 p.m., two Toyota Corolla station wagon motor cars were travelling in opposite directions when Jermain Smith, the driver of the vehicle heading towards Savanna-la-Mar, lost control of the car while negotiating a left hand curve. His car went into the path of the other vehicle, driven by Richard Sicheran.
ADMITTED IN HOSPITAL
Both drivers and 11 passengers sustained multiple injuries. They were all rushed to the Savanna-la-Mar Hospital where they were admitted. Sicheran was later transferred to the KPH.
The Savanna-la-Mar traffic police who are investigating said that this accident was as a result of careless driving and excessive speed.
According to the police, it was obvious that Smith was speeding. This was further complicated by the fact that he was transporting six passengers.
