Dalley to visit Cuban eye-care facilities
published: Friday | June 2, 2006

THE MINISTRY of Health says that the Jamaica/Cuba Eye Care Programme will not be suspended.

In a statement yesterday, Health Minister Horace Dalley said more than 2,000 poor people have benefited from surgical treatment and post-operative care since the programme began nine months ago.

Mr. Dalley said he appreciated the treatment programme being provided by the Cuban Government, though stressing he would lead a high-level delegation, including local ophthalmologists, to visit the Cuban facilities in the coming weeks. He also said he had requested a full investigation to determine whether the occurrence of complications was within the internationally-accepted norm.
