JAMAICA WILL be the venue for the first Caribbean Media Conference and Expo, which will be held from September 6 and 7 at the Hilton Kingston.
Aldo Smith, project director of the event, said it is expected to attract some 25 presenters from across the Caribbean, Canada and the United States.
MAIN OBJECTIVES
"(Among) the three main objectives that we have is, one, to bring everybody within the Caribbean on to the same page in terms of information. The second thing is to bring a greater level of awareness as to what is available in media," Mr. Smith said. "The third thing is to really provide a platform for moving forward, because once we created the first event and you created the lines of communication, it gives us an opportunity to keep doing the conference around the region."
Mr. Smith, who was addressing a press briefing to launch the conference on Balmoral Avenue in St. Andrew on Tuesday, said the presenters would focus on 10 topics such as 'Global Trends in the Media' and 'Intellectual Property Rights'.
Among the list of speakers are: Dr. Hopeton Dunn, chief executive officer of Creative Production and Training Centre; Claude Robinson, senior research fellow in the Mona School of Business; Greg Hoyos from Barbados; and Ken Attale from Trinidad and Tobago.
In welcoming the event, Brian Schmidt, chairman of the Media Association of Jamaica, said the conference would provide a common ground for regional media to interact.
The event is being organised by AMK Communications in collaboration with sponsors CMC, BlackSlate Media Group and Cable and Wireless.
