DAVIS
REGGAE BOY Claude Davis is all set to play football in the English Premiership this season following an official agreement between his Championship division Club Preston North End and newly-promoted Sheffield United.
Though the fee was initially undisclosed reports from the clubs website indicated that they could end up receiving about £3 million for the central defender. The 27-year-old had been the subject of intense scrutiny from Sheffield United and the other two newly-promoted clubs to the English Premiership, Watford who already have Davis' teammate Marlon King, and Reading.
Davis, who has been regarded as one of the best players in the Championship division, fell within the price range of the clubs who were working with limited transfer funds. The 6'2" last man was originally estimated to be valued at around £2.5 million .
According to Preston chairman Derek Shaw, the deal for Davis was not one that the club could afford to turn down and from a monetary standpoint was in the best interest of the club. The last man had made more than 100 appearances for Preston North End since joining in July 2003 and scored on four occasions. Davis was scheduled to discuss personal details of the contract with Sheffield United yesterday.
