THE EDITOR, Sir:
I WOULD like to congratulate The Gleaner for publishing on June 13 such an insightful scientific article by the Rev. Devon Dick, with the title 'No homo genes'. This article has really opened my mind on a number of doubts I had about myself. Let me explain.
According to Rev. Dick, the fact that two brothers or sisters born from the same parents have different sexual orientations (one homo, one hetero) proves irrefutably that sexual orientation is a lifestyle choice, not determined by their genes. Otherwise, they would both be hetero, since their parents who conceived them through heterosexual contact are by definition hetero.
Now finally, I understand the mystery why I am tall while my brothers are short, and our parents are both short. It is a lifestyle choice I made to be tall.
It has nothing to do with my genes. Otherwise who could possibly have passed the tall gene to me and why did it not get to my brothers?
If Rev. Dick, who should be awarded a Laurea Honoris Causa for his scientific findings, had not explained this, I would have remained with the eternal unresolved question about why I am very tall while my brothers and parents are rather short. It's simply a question of lifestyle choices.
I am, etc.,
