THE OTHER SIDE OF LADY SAW

THE LADY Saw you see on stage is a far cry from the woman at home.

Upon entering her upper St. Andrew home, a black and white photograph of Marion Hall and her mother, Jasmine White immediately catches the eye from the coffee table where it sits. Her late mother's face is nestled against hers. There are wrinkles below her eyes as she smiles. Marion's smile is brighter.

It is among family that the international dancehall artiste feels most comfortable. Known inside dancehall circles as Lady Saw - at home the usually raunchy artiste transformed into cook, housewife and comforter of her family. She would be the first to admit that she is over-protective of them.

"Marion just loves her family. We love each other, as sisters should, from way back when. I guess because we grew up really close, we are kind of addicted to each other," said Jasreena Hall, her sister.

At home, Miss Hall is touted as the best pudding maker. Her lobster rundown, curried goat and peppered steak are favourites among her family.

"Them pretty breadfruit whey unno see on the tree, outside, soon end up on the stove with some 'run-down'," said Jasreena Hall.

It would be difficult for Miss Hall not to assist her family. She recalls days, before becoming Lady Saw 14 years ago, when she was struggling in between odd jobs and her family was there for her.

"I love my family and take care of them because they were all I had when I had nothing," she said.

MUMMA HER NAME

She is not afraid to spend on her family. "Just the other day she gave me a new vehicle, a Navigator," said Jasreena Hall.

The 36-year-old has four brothers and four sisters. Hall is close to three of her siblings, taking care of everybody occasionally when the need arises. Her father, a painter, stays at one of her houses. One of Hall's sister lives at another one of her home in Portmore, St. Catherine. Recently she took care of hospital bills for a brothers and sister.

"Any time we are admitted to hospital she pays," said Jasreena Hall. When their mother and grandmother died, Mumma Marion footed the burial costs. "She takes care of everything," said the sister, who also acts as
