ST. ANN Jamaica Bauxite Partners has launched a tree-planting project aimed at replanting trees that have been displaced as a result of its mining operations in St. Ann.
The project, which is being implemented mainly through 4-H clubs in schools along with community organisations in the parish, is expected to see the replanting of a variety of fruit and lumber trees over the next five years.
PLEASED
Speaking at the official launch of the project the at the company's Port Rhoades Sports Club on June 20, Human Resource Manager Winston McFarlane said that the company was extremely pleased to have initiated the project.
He pointed out that bauxite companies operating in Jamaica have always sought to maintain a high level of consciousness regarding our responsibility to the environment, because by the very nature of what we do, we create some damage to the environment.
