Holmwood retain hold on Spaulding Cup trophy
published: Friday | June 23, 2006

Carl Spence, Gleaner Writer

RURAL CHAMPIONS Holmwood Technical claimed their four consecutive hold on the Spaulding Cup with a convincing 10-wicket win over Eltham High yesterday at Melbourne.

Eltham resumed the final day's play at 15-1 and needing a further 97 runs to cut the 108-run deficit set by the Holmwood team. An unbeaten 27 from number nine batsman Kino-Paul Sailsman, assisted by André Scott's 25 and Romeo Parker's 22 provided some resistance to the stalwart spin bowling of Holmwood's Ziggy Levy (6-40) and Oshane Jones (2-5). Levy, a former national Under-19 representative, was responsible for demolishing Eltham's top order after bagging the prized wickets of the hard-hitting Shacoya Thomas (17) and Jeffrey Scott batting at two and three, respectively.

The team never recovered from the losses and faltered to 128 all out, setting the three-time champions 27 runs at 2:00 p.m. to win the match outright.

Holmwood wasted no time in arriving at their target in just 4.5 overs. The openers, Scott (19) and Marlon Johnson (five not out), ensured the trophy returned to the Manchester school.
