Anthony Foster, Freelance WriterDORAIN SCOTT was in record-breaking form on yesterday's second day of the National Senior and Junior track and field Championships at the National Stadium.
"I feel good," was how he described his national shot put record throw of 20.33m.
"I am pleased. I wanted to throw better, because I threw better in practice, but I am pleased, I'm pleased with it," he said.
"I am just using these championships as my start-off meet for the outdoor season," said Scott, who previously threw 19.75m this season.
Meanwhile, Ricardo Chambers and Shericka Williams will start favourites in this afternoon's men's and women's 400m finals respectively.
Both athletes, Chambers, the NCAA silver medallist, and Williams, the reigning champion, easily won their semi-final heats in 45.15 and 51.16 respectively.
However, while Chambers leads Jermaine Gonzales (45.83), Leford Green (45.86), Sanjay Ayre (46.06) and Davian Clarke ( 46.18), Williams trailed Novlene Williams's season best 50.64.
Chambers expects a good final.
"I know it's going to be a good race in the final, hopefully I can just pull it off," said Chambers. "I just ran relaxed most of the way" in the semi-final.
The Florida State University athlete said he is not worried about the field which awaits him in the final. "When I am running I don't look at my competitors, I just run my own race. If I watch other people, then I will mess up, so I just run my own race," he added.
Gonzales admitted Chambers is the man to beat by saying "he is running good all season, but as I said, I am a fighter and I am here to fight, so we will see what happens tomorrow".
Ayre believes it's an open final.
"I still think it's anybody's race. I ran pretty easy today, so let's see what can be done tomorrow."
While Clarke said: "I am just going out there to do my best as always ? just represent myself".
Shericka Williams, who said she was relaxed in the semi-finals, expects a good final today.
"You can expect a very competitive final," she said.
Novlene Williams is also looking forward to the final.
"It's going to be very interesting," she said.
"I know she (Shericka) is expected to run a good race but so am I. So we just have to wait and see ... As long as I run a good race tomorrow, I am OK."
Joint world 100m record holder Asafa Powell will start favourite in the men's 200m, also set for this afternoon. Ricardo Williams, Marvin Anderson and Ainsley Waugh should also face the starter.
