Tocumen looks good

THE SUPER-6 starts anew on tomorrow's 12-race programme at Caymanas Park, but the Pick-9 has a million-dollar carryover from last Saturday.

Significantly, the programme will facilitate two Super-6s, the first from race one to six and the second from race seven to 12.

The Pick-9, meanwhile, embraces races four to 12. We look at the second Super-6, beginning with a $200,000 - $170,000 claiming race to be contested by seven starters over 1100 metres.

Despite the presence of the recent winners SEGA and WHITE WATER, both stepping up in class, the race will more than likely resolve itself into a straight fight between the down in class horses, TOCUMEN and RISING MOON to be ridden by in-form jockeys, Paul Francis and Charles Hussey, respectively.

TOCUMEN, who has beaten much better in the not-too-distant past, finished a close second to FORMULA ONE over the straight five course on a $270,000 when last raced on May 20. RISING MOON was 3 1/2 lengths fourth (after suffering interference) to the subsequently disqualified TUTOR over 1100 metres on a $240,000 tag June 21. It could be close between both geldings, but TOCUMEN has more appeal.

Next on the programme is a restricted allowance V (non-winners of two (1200 metres) in which BREAKING NEWS, FREE LANCE, UGOTTABELIEVE, VENOM and PRINCESSJACQUELINE (all fit horses) should make it a highly competitive affair.

FAILED

Although FREE LANCE and UGOTTABELIEVE failed narrowly against TOUCHDOWN and TRUE SENSATION respectively last time out, preference is for the Noel Ennevor-trained PRINCESSJACQUELINE who had no luck in running when hampered badly at the start in the straight five race won by TRUE SENSATION on June 24.

Despite dropping back to last position when bumped into by the subsequently disqualified CHAMPAGNE & GOLD at the start, PRINCESSJACQUELINE closed 10 lengths over the last 400 metres to finish six lengths fifth and with the weights (52.0kg) in her favour, gets the nod over FREE LANCE.

ITALQUEEN, who won so impressively over 1200 metres last time out, has been administered Lasix for the first time and is tipped to follow up with Hussey astride in the ninth race over 1300 metres.

LISA'S RIGG looks best of a bad lot in the 10th, while SEATTLE'S GIRL is a safe banker in the 11th race for the Owen Silvera Memorial Cup over 1600 metres in which seven open allowance horses have been declared. Strictly on a hunch, Harding's mount, GI DEM A RUN (figure eight fitted) is preferred to MISS SLOOKIE and FRONT RUNNER in the nightcap for maiden three-year-olds.
