Norwood's wanted turn themselves in
published: Saturday | July 8, 2006

WESTERN BUREAU:

FOUR OF five suspects named among the St. James 10 most wanted men, who were being sought in connection with Tuesday's massacre of five persons in Norwood, St. James, have turned themselves in to the police.

Investigators say the men are associated with the infamous Stone Crusher Gang to which the flare-up of violence in Norwood over the past two months has been attributed.

Within hours of being identified on Thursday, and having a $500,000 bounty placed on their heads, 20-year-old Lenford 'Bungie' Brown and Andrew Cox, also known as 'Blacka Shine', 18, both of Hendon, Norwood, were escorted to the St. James Divisional Headquarters by relatives.

The third man, 22-year-old Kevin Wilson of Hendon, was handed over to the police by his mother about 9:00 a.m. yesterday.

Then, sometime after 3:00 p.m., 23-year-old Adrian 'Banga' Lofters was escorted to the station by his attorney-at-law, Morrel Beckford.

"I think the community have found a successful way of registering contempt for the crimes and social sanctions in that regard could have influenced the action of the men," remarked Superintendent Warren Clarke, officer in charge of the St. James Police Division.

"We are looking primarily at the five recent and also looking further at atrocities committed in the past. In a short time, we will be able to firmly place charges against them."

FIFTH SUSPECT REMAINS AT LARGE

The fifth suspect, who remains at large, is known only as 'Troy or Tribal'.

Reports are that about 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Brown was accompanied to the Montego Bay lock-up by his parents. Two hours later, the pastor of the Full Gospel Church in Norwood accompanied Cox to the same facility.

Forty-three-year-old Patrick Anderson, 29-year-old Natalie Ferguson, 57-year-old Linda Malcolm, her common-law husband, 62-year-old Michael Montaque and their 20-year-old son, Michael Jr., were killed by gunmen in separate attacks in Norwood on July 4. The attackers also torched the houses of Anderson and the Montaques.

The community remains tense, even as the police beef up their manpower and presence in the area.
