THE 2006 all-island one-day cricket championship the Capital and Credit limited overs competition begins today with the playing of nine matches across Jamaica.
A couple of teams, namely St. Mary and St. Thomas, will get their fat chance at pulling off an upset as their mighty opponents will be missing some of their most influential players.
This is due mainly to the players' participation with the national team in the regional Twenty/20 series.
Defending champions Melbourne will be travelling to St. Mary's Sports Club to play St. Mary in the day's feature game.
PERSONAL BUSINESS
However, the defending champions will be without Marlon Samuels who has personal business, along with Donovan Pagon, Nikita Miller and Carlton Baugh Jr., who both left with Jamaica's Twenty/20 squad for Antigua yesterday.
In their absence, former West Indies Under-19 player Andre McCarthy, Yannick Elliott, Ray Stewart, Llewellyn Meggs and Leon Bent will lead the Kangaroos' charge against Tyson Gordon and Maurice Clarke Jr. of St. Mary.
League and Cup Challenge champions St. Catherine will also be at a disadvantage when they host St. Thomas at Chedwin Park.
The Saints will be without Jermaine Lawson, Tamar Lambert, Bevon Brown, Dean Morgan and Odean Brown.
In other matches, St. Ann face Clarendon at Kaiser, Westmoreland take on JDF at Allan Rae Oval, Lucas vs St. Elizabeth at Nelson Oval, Police face Man-chester at Elletson Road, Kingston's Tigers entertain St. Catherine parish at Sabina Park, Boys' Town tackle Portland at Collie Smith Drive, and St. Thomas travel to Kingston to play the host.
