Jamaicans in Atlanta celebrate Independence, Emancipation

ATLANTA:

THE RIGHT Reverend Alfred Reid, Anglican Archbishop of Jamaica and the Cayman Islands, will deliver the sermon at a thanksgiving service to mark Jamaica's 44th Independence anniversary at the Hillside Presbyterian Church in Atlanta, on Sunday, July 30, at 5:00 p.m.

At the service, the Prime Minister's message will be read by Vin Martin, Jamaica's Honorary Consul in Atlanta. The first lesson will be read by the president of the Atlanta Jamaican Association, Allan Alberga. The service will be moderated by Rev. Dr. Winston Lawson, pastor of the Hillside Presbyterian Church.

CULTURAL EXTRAVAGANZA

On Wednesday, August 2, the annual Cultural Extravaganza will take place at the Church of the Holy Cross, Royal Hall, beginning at 6:00 p.m. The concert will feature a number of cultural performances including Errol Moore, Lee Danja, the Carisol Singers, Unity Dance Troupe, The Sugar Canes, and special guest Monty Mont-gomery and his band.

INDEPENDENCE AND EMANCIPATION BALL

Former Prime Minister of Jamaica P.J. Patterson will deliver the keynote address at the Atlanta Jamaica Association Annual Independence and Emancipation Ball on August 5. This will take place at the Hilton Hotel, downtown Atlanta.

This black-tie event, which is under the patronage of Jamaica's Ambassador to Washington, Professor Gordon Shirley, will bring together Jamaicans from across Georgia.

Among the highlights at this gala event will be the annual presentation of scholarship awards to students of Jamaican parentage attending college in the United States.
