SWEET SOYA - Serac Soy Milk
published: Thursday | July 13, 2006

Soya Samples - PHOTO BY SHELLY THOMPSON

MANY PEOPLE in the western world have come to like the unique taste of soya milk.

But soya has not been the best choice for hot beverages like coffee, and manufacturers have used masking agents and flavours to ensure the product is used as a beverage drink, such as a milk shake.

Serac Soy Milk has overcomes this problem with three flavours - original, chocolate and strawberry.

DISSOLVING

Most soya products do not dissolve easily and, as a result, the consumer has difficulty mixing the drinks. In competing products, hot water is needed to dissolve the powder.

Serac Soy Milk has eliminated this problem and mixes easily with regular or cold water at room temperature.

The Serac Soya-based product has been developed for a number of years by a South African company working with Saab, the fighter jet people, to develop a product that does not have the vegetable taste and mixes easily.

TASTERS' COMMENTS

The following are comments from a group of persons who tasted all three flavours: original, strawberry and chocolate.

ORIGINAL

The Original is a real alternative to milk products.

It is also sucrose-free.

It is suitable for vegetarians.

It will provide a real alternative to individuals who are lactose-intolerant.

The taste and ease of mixing are major selling points.

The Original flavour was really good. I like it and it went well with my cereal so it is a plus.

I am not a big fan of soy milk but I like the Original.

I liked the Original very much. It tasted like fresh soy milk and had a similar consistency. That is how a powdered product should taste when you add water.

The Original was lovely. The flavour was like drinking real milk, not like soy.

CHOCOLATE

The Chocolate flavour barely got a passing grade. Thankfully, it was not too sweet, but it left a funny aftertaste in my mouth.

The Chocolate flavour was not so good - it left a slight unpleasant aftertaste in my mouth.

The Chocolate flavour is not so bad, a bit refreshing.

The chocolate flavour was not really 'chocolatey'. Tasted really inferior.

STRAWBERRY

The Strawberry flavour was not very distinct. However, it was a refreshing drink.
