Reggae Boyz 'off the ball'
published: Saturday | July 15, 2006

Jah Foresight, Contributor

THE FOOTBALL World Cup came and went and the world is back on its axis. Have you heard that our ranking as Jamaicans has fallen by 30 places? I do not see the need for the big surprise at all. It was the performance for the previous World Cups that had placed us in a reasonable position. Since those days, several teams have risen to the world stage, including Trinidad and Tobago. Our Reggae Boyz did not grow to become men and I am totally convinced that coaches make a difference. I would love the next national coach to be a white man. The Willie Lynch syndrome is still on us as a people, and our investors will only spend their money if the coach looks like them. My preference in all this coach talk is our John Barnes, but you will hear that I am not practical. I hope this will start a debate on the issue.

How did your team fare at the world Cup? I did not expect Italy to win and I did not have Brazil to win. Germany was not up in my book. I had a little vibe for Argentina and my focus was on the underdogs. France was among the underdogs since at least 70 per cent of the players look like you and me. I totally understand why the captain 'bucked' the Italian. I know that some racism must be in the mix. I could not support a team where up to sixty years ago, His Imperial Majesty was getting hell on his football or battlefield. I can imagine that a many Jamaicans lost money on Brazil.

ALLEGED MOLESTATION

The story of the week is about that church and alleged molestation of the teenage girl. Most sexual molestation cases normally involved trusted folks and this is a fact. I have always been saying that it is the means of transportation to and from school is the key factor that will make or break your daughter. It is now the time that parents try and transport their own children to school. If you live in Portmore, St. Catherine, just pay your toll and get your children to school. Poor girl the entire Jamaica is looking at her and she must be going through emotional hell. Why was this act videotaped? Was this intended for export? If this was for the local market, the players must expect that after some time identities would have been revealed, and hell would break loose. As a father of a daughter, I can tell you heads would roll. Go and buy the book written by Bello. This news hit just as hard as the death of Christine Hewitt.

A BIT CONCERNED

I am little bit concerned about the influx of foreign workers on hotel sites and cricket stadiums. It is time for us to look at ourselves and wonder why we have to import non-Caribbean Community (CARICOM) workers. Is it that we are lazy and have no good behaviour? Is it that extortion is so rampart on sites? Is it that our casual workers have no understanding of deadlines? Is it that we are so demanding about high wages but do not want to give the quality work? If these questions can be answered easily, we as a nation are in a sad state.

Let us look at the jackpot over the past week. The numbers for last Saturday were: 3 (dead, garlic, broom), 5 (thief, actor, dirt), 21(bad girl, mule), 22 (white woman, nurse), 23 (black man, monkey, cat), 29 (parson, eagle, judge) and bonus ball of 20. The consecutive numbers were 22 and 25.

The winning numbers for last Wednesday were: 1 (duppy, ice, cow), 3 (dead, coffin), 8 (belly, red cow), 29 (PARSON, JUDGE), 31 (lizard, snake), 32 (red rum, honey, gold) and the bonus number of 5. Number 3 was repeated while 31 and 32 were consecutive. Have you notice that dead is coming in nearly every draw? Some folks will say that rakes are not real.
