The Editor, Sir:
I watch with great disappointment the litany of political verbiage flowing between the Hon. Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller and the Jamaica Labour Party regarding the impending general election.
Less than two weeks ago the Hon Prime Minister taunted the JLP for trying to stall general elections following their call for a review of the electoral list. This past week we see the JLP declaring its readiness for an election and challenged the Prime Minister to call the election. In The Sunday Gleaner dated July 23, we see the headlines "Not Yet, PM Shuns JLP election call" and in short she is saying, "nobody is going to dictate to me when to go the polls"
I don't know about the rest of the country but I feel like I'm watching children at play in what is a high stakes game that amateurs need not line up to partake in.
What is this foolishness about? This is not a kids game, this is a serious matter, why are we playing cat and mouse, and flip-flopping on an issue that is really about the people of this country? When will the Prime Minister realise that this is not about her, this is about serving the people of this country with integrity and a sense of purpose. When will the JLP stop the politicking?
Ladies and gentlemen in whose "able" hands we put our trust and faith, we beg of you ... grow up! Leave your emotions, and egos out of this. Stop this nonsense and let's keep our eyes on the ball. Pressing issues are actually screaming for your attention, and a general election may very well be the call we need to get to the heart of some serious house cleaning. Let's get to work!
I am, etc.,
