Patty power from Mother's
published: Thursday | July 27, 2006

Mother's' fish patty makes a tasty lunch or snack alternative. - Winston Sill/Freelance Photographer

Mother's recently introduced a fish patty through intensive market research and in response to customer feedback.

Jamaicans are becoming more health-conscious every day and are seeking new exciting food products that give them the most health benefits. Responding to this concern, Mother's developed the fish patty, which is delicious, nutritious, high in protein and rich in omega-3 fatty acids. These nutrients have been proven to be good for the heart.

Power Patty

The power patty was introduced in September 2005. This soy-based patty has a similar taste to a beef patty. Titled, 'ready to eat without the meat', the power patty was widely accepted by consumers. It has been a great success.

Food asked several persons to sample both products and these are their comments.

Comments

The Fish Patty

I like the taste. It's almost like eating a beef patty, but it smells too fishy though.

The fish smell is too strong, but it is well seasoned.

The fish tastes nice, it's all right.

The fish patty has more of a fish-mixed-with-chicken flavour to it, with lots of spice and pepper, You tend to want more.

The taste is not much different from a chicken patty.

The fish patty was a little spicy to me. But refreshing to feel no bones. The crust was not too hard as usual and this blends well with fish meat.

The fish patty is a really good and creative idea

I was never a fan of Mother's patties but this one is definitely wicked. It tastes great and the rawness associated with fish is not even present. I will have to go and buy this one.

The fish patty was good, I like it.

The fish patty is surprisingly good. At first I thought, a fish patty? But, it is well-seasoned and quite tasty.

The fish patty has that want more factor. I know this because I want more.

The fish patty is delicious. It has a delectable mix of spices and the fish is tasty without tasting 'fishy'. You won't have to worry about it leaving an after-taste or smell like so many other fish products. It is my new favourite patty.

As my lips and tongue slowly caressed the palatable pastry, my tastebuds exploded in a magnificent moment of ecstasy. My expectations were met! It was peppery, but not too hot. Well seasoned and hit the spot quite nicely.

The fish patty was excellent. It was well seasoned, you hardly recognised that you were eating fish (no fishy smell).

The fish patty - not tasty - bland.

If Mother's maintains the quality of the fish patty I will join the line daily to purchase. It is nice and mild - and it's not raw.

I was never a fan of the brand, too much salt for my taste but I like the fish patty, good flavour, great pastry. However, it's still not my first choice

Power Patty

It's nice considering that it is all soy. It almost totally tastes like meat.

It's all right. You do not miss the meat.

It is tasty. A good treat. I expected it to be thicker, especially since it has the name 'Power'. But is okay. I would buy it.

The power patty is OK.

I don't like it. Too much seasoning.

The power patty is very seasoned, which for me is fine. It does taste like beef but you can taste there is a slight difference.

The soy patty has a nice flavour but needs more pepper for that extra zing.

One thing for sure, you cannot accuse Mother's of false advertising as the power patty; it really tastes like beef. However, there was a little after-taste, which gives a hint that it was not really beef.

The power patty is powerless!

Excellent power patty, love it. It has a tasty flavour.

The power patty should be kept in the oven - not the best tasting thing in patty shops.

I do not like this at all. I have no desire for meat substitutes, give me some real beef!
