WESTERN BUREAU:

Panic and confusion reigned as death marred the Montpelier main road in St. James on Friday night, when six people were crushed to death in a gruesome motor vehicle accident, as they made their way home.

Six persons were pinned under the mangled remains of a grey Toyota Corolla station wagon after it was hit off the road onto an embankment by a Toyota Hiace bus.

The Anchovy police confirmed at press time last evening that two of the dead, a male and a female, remained unidentified. The others were identified as 12-year-old Shin Green, a student of the Chester Castle Primary School in Hanover and a resident of Bethel Town, Westmoreland; Nischo Brenee McPherson-Reid, a 21-year-old law student, of Bethel Town; Germaine Gregory, 25-year-old taxi operator of Lambs River in Westmoreland and Eyon Gooden. Police were unable to ascertain Mr. Gooden's particulars.

Twelve persons were also injured and hospitalised. They are: Gladstone Prawl, 65, of 13 King Street, Falmouth, Trelawny; Donald Williams, 68, of Granville, Trelawny; Sergeant William Brown, 56, attached to the Clark's Town Police Station; Wilfred Knuckle, 70, of Rodney Street, Falmouth; Samuel James, 58 of Falmouth; Beverley Ward and Morris Grant of Falmouth.

A family of five make up the others on the injury list. They are Ralph Kerr, 31; Collette Kerr, 25; Monique Kerr, 15; Vanessa Barrett, 14 and Amanda Williams, 14, all of Hatfield, Westmoreland.
