Under wet conditions, Jeffery Panton and his well-prepared Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 9, easily disposed of his rivals at last weekend's JMMC Sprint No. 4 event, held at the MoBay Raceway in Moreland, St. James.
"We were surprised by the performance of the car, because this is the first time since last December it has raced on a dirt track," said a jubilant Panton. The former St. George's College schoolboy and his service crew have been experiencing a run of bad luck in the JMMC organised rally events since January and last weekend's victory should now lift their spirits.
An early afternoon downpour brought a premature end to the day's racing activities, with two of three scheduled runs completed. The event was scored as complete, but the third run as well as the three-lap championship runs had to be abandoned.
Sprint No. 4 was originally scheduled for the 'Badda Badda' race track in Priory, St. Ann, but because of the weather conditions, it was switched to the Montego Bay Raceway. This track was prepared in just under 24 hours by track owner Oscar Rhoden with assistance from Seal Construction.
