Roads to close for 'Miss Lou'
published: Wednesday | August 9, 2006

SECTIONS of downtown Kingston will be closed to vehicular traffic today in order to facilitate the funeral of Louise Bennett-Coverley.

Barry Street on the southern grid of the city will be blocked off, likewise Church, North Parade and Upper King streets.

The Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) has announced several changes to its downtown routes.

The changes, which take effect 8:30 a.m.-7:30 p.m., will affect passengers who take buses that terminate on North and East Parade and on Church and Duke streets.

JUTC buses will not enter the sterile area of Duke, Church or Upper King streets.

New parking

Buses that normally terminate their route on North Parade will be parked on Orange Street, between Barry and Beckford streets. Those which normally terminate at Church Street will be parked at West Parade.

The bus bay on South and West Parade will operate as normal.

Buses travelling from Cross Roads to downtown will have route changes to bypass North and East Parade.
