'Government of Jamaica's approach to cops' wages wrong'
published: Friday | August 11, 2006

President of the Jamaica Confederation of Trade Unions, Senator Dwight Nelson, has taken issue with how the Government is going about wage negotiations for members of the police force.

"I think that the present approach determining (wage) improvement for the police is wrong. What the Government and Police Federation are doing is applying a trade union approach; the police are not unionised employees," he said.

Meanwhile, the executive of the Police Federation will be meeting with the Government this morning when it is expected that the Government will come to the table with a counter offer.

The federation has been in salary negotiations with the Government for the past seven months.
