Scenes from Crop-Over festival held in Barbados from August 4 to August 8.

Barbados' Crop-Over festival climaxed on Monday, August 6, Kadooment Day, in a blaze of bright colours as 25 bands participated in the day-long parade from the National Stadium, through crowded streets to Spring Gardens.

The month-long Barbados Crop-Over festival, from all accounts, was a success, as large crowds turned out for the various events. There was also a high number of visitors to the island for the festival.

Pic-O-De-Crop Finals

The National Stadium greeted the Pic-O-De-Crop Finals, sponsored by Cable and Wireless, and saw keen competition among the 10 finalists with some serious social commentaries; taking swipes at politicians and even the Prime Minister, as well as fellow calypsonians. In the end, David 'Kid Site' Piggott emerged the winner for the third consecutive year. Colin Spencer was second and William 'Classic' Waithe, third. The popular T.C. finished a disappointing ninth.

The Sunday night Cockspur Cohobblopot Show, also held at the stadium, saw Betty West winning the Queen Of The Bands title from arch-rival Gwyneth Squires. West modelled her costume titled 'Flight Of The Egrets' while Pat Carter modelled Squires' design 'Emancipate The Mind'. 'Dey More Fish In De Sea Dan Wa Catch', modelled by band leader Trevor Chase, won King Of The Bands, from Squires' 'Head Hunter' with Tyrone Augustine, while West's 'Aquaman', worn by Ronald Kellman, placed third.
