Drain dilemma
published: Tuesday | August 15, 2006

Left: Spanish Town Road.   Right: North Parade, downtown Kingston.

Last Wednesday, the nation's eyes were focused on downtown Kingston for the funeral of folklorist and poet Louise Bennett-Coverley.

Things got a little tricky when 15 minutes of heavy rainfall caused flood waters that covered almost every roadway in the vicinity of the Coke Methodist Church where the funeral was being held.

But why was there so much water on the roads after only 15 minutes of rain?

These pictures taken by Gleaner photographer Norman Grindley point to a possible cause. These drains in the vicinity of the church and other sections of the Corporate Area were seen clogged yesterday.
