Call election now, PM
published: Thursday | August 17, 2006

The Editor, Sir:

Re thE editorial 'Portia facing life as national leader' a woman must not be measured by her gender only, but by her cognitive ability, her education and her honour (her very being). Who is Portia? This has not been adequately addressed.

She should seek a mandate by calling the general elections now. Jamaica needs to show more maturity in the democratic process. The date for election should not be a begging date , it should be definite.

The society is greater than any individual, so why should we subjugate ourselves to beg for an election date. It hurts me very much. My fore-parents did all the begging and the struggling for me .

I am, etc.,

Rev. JOAN PORTEOUS
