Leos create lasting maritime memories

Huge birthday cake for the three celebrants aboard the 'Mathos' on Sunday.

Chester Francis-Jackson, Contributor

My dears, it's the age of the Leo, and coming to an end, as fast as it is, the fabulous Leos are partying with the gusto of the newly-converted revivalist. And it all began with that smasheroni that legal powerhouse, Harold Brady, hosted at his tres-fab upper St. Andrew residence, in true Romanesque mode, at the beginning of the month.

Following upon that shindig, fashion's latest tour de force, Nadine Willis hosted another of her fine birthday celebrations, and this too was a party conceptualised and executed in the world of hotdom, and had only the celebrated, the photographed and quoted in attendance.

Vinay Walia also celebrated, in fact his was a double-whammy, as indeed, his peers and colleagues threw him a fancy shindig at the Guardsman Group headquarters last Friday, and that saw many a friend, colleague and client in attendance for the celebrations.

But that was last Friday. The real gungo was to follow, however, on the Saturday, as the financial group director of the Guardsman Group of Companies, was in his ackee and then some, on Saturday night, as he hosted a very smart and quite chic dinner party, to mark his actual birthday, at his golden triangle condominium, that saw a critical hand-picked shortlist of friends in attendance. And y'all know that with premium libations flowing, and good company, the party was on in earnest!

Well, my daahlings, it was, and was so fine, people are still talking.

Different cantata

Now, Sunday, was a different cantata, altogether as the fabulously leggy Josephine McGann, who, along with Ulle Bangerter of Swiss Stores, actually celebrated her birthday and dears, she teamed up with fellow Leos, Alex and Cheryl Hill, who are not only one fabulously hot Leo couple, they also celebrate their wedding anniversary in the month of August, to throw a memorable do, in keeping with the trend of Leos this season.

Well pumpkins, this was a party of a different flavour, and fabulously so, as indeed, the fab couple just brought in their party boat - a fabulous catamaran really - in from its U.S. base, settling it nicely over there at the bastion of all that is civilised yachting here, the Royal Jamaica Yacht Club, on the Palisades, near Port Royal.

Well sweet things, the preferred party destination, last Sunday, was aboard Alex and Cheryl Hill's catamaran, named Mathos, for its cruise over to Lime Cay and its environs, and children, for the much anticipated and talked about Leo cruise, being set ahoy, to celebrate the birthday of Cheryl Hill on the 9th; the fab Josephine McGann on the 13th and Captain Alex Hill on the 19th. It was a cruise steeped in the very essence of the good life!

Sweet-luvs, to begin with, with orders that sail would be set at half-10 on Sunday, for the most part, all guests were present at the Royal Jamaica Yacht Club at the appointed hour and ready to board. And children, guests wasted no time in setting the course for the day as by 11:00 a.m., the preferred drink was mimosas and luvs, did it go down well! Oh my word, what a way to kick off a party!

What the doctor ordered

Dovecakes, it was just what the doctor ordered.

Honeys, we are talking about one fine outing here, and on the high seas and in no less a place than those now infamous pirates of the Caribbean set their sail to the chagrin of merchant mariners of that time! No 'dead man's chest' here, but oodles and oodles of party elixir, guaranteed to make light of the leisurely crossing to the sand bank known as Lime Cay.

Now me daahlings, if ever there was a gold mine of tourism potential just a-begging to be marketed, it must be Port Royal. The once fabulous city, that sat at the centre of world piracy and fabulous decadence, that met its ruination through an apocalyptic natural disaster, no less so than Pompeii, but largely ignored by us and the powers that should sell our own apocalypse to the disaster-loving sympathetic world traveller.

Anyway pumpkins, aboard the Mathos, on Sunday, the pirates never had it so good. We are talking fabulous party music, a Caribbean feast of the fabulous kind, prepared by the charming couple of Michael and Jennifer Movery, of Coco Brown's Restaurant and Eatery in Ocho Rios. They cooked up a storm in the catamaran's galley, and served up a feast that was as fine as it was satisfying.

Preferred beach

Luvs, for those in the know, Lime Cay is the preferred beach for Kingston and St. Andrew's 'in' crowd, as this is where the chic, moneyed and buffed are to be found, on any given day of the week, but more so on weekends, just sunning it away from the madding crowds of the metropolis, not to mention the polloi.

So last Sunday morning the Mathos dropped anchor just off Lime Cay, joining a phalanx of other luxury maritime imports anchored off Lime Cay, their owners and guests, partying up a sun-worshipping fiesta, either on board their yachts and or boats, or on the pristine beach.

Honeys, the only things missing were grass-skirted hula dancing girls and welcoming garlands of hibiscuses, or their equivalent, but sweet things, Lime Cay was cooking. Precious Angels, it was all that, and then some.

Joining the party were Harold Brady; Evan and Betsy Williams and their lovely daughter Enola Williams; the lovely Janet Farrow; R. Christene King and her sibling Dawn King; Candy DePass; Alex Dropinski of the EU Delegation and companion the lovely Dr. Saphire Longmore; Robert Haughton; Christopher and Kerry-Ann Reckord, Shelly-Ann Daley; Sassan and Rochelle Attari; Melissa Walters; Serge and Jolly Benghait now celebrating their 34th year of a fine union, their son Sonny Benghait. Also out were Michelle Haynes; Bruce Rattary; Avril Norton; Denny and Gail Clementson; plus a number of others.
